May 24th, The good, the bad, and the ugly of being a STEM major
The students and mentors discuss their experience in pursuing a STEM degree and learn about the challenges in getting a degree.
May 31st, Am I a scientist (yet)?
We discuss several topics such as “What is a scientist?”, “What is the training of a scientist?”, “How much does a scientist get paid?”, and “What’s academics; what’s industry; what are the options?”. Dr. Cheung will distribute the survey from the APS website on the salaries made by the Physics students with B.Sci., M.Sci, and Ph.D. degrees.
June 7th, Applying for Graduate Schools
Members of the Rice Physics Graduate Program Admissions Committee will talk with the students. Dr. Cheung will also share her experience with the students about her work on the graduate studies committee at UH.
June 14th, What’s research?
The mentors will share their experience in research with the summer students.
June 21st, What’s my research project this summer
The students describe their research project in two minutes.
July 5th, How to prepare a poster presentation
Dr. Kyung-Hee Bae, from the Center for Written, Oral, and Visual Communication will present to the students.
July 12th, How to write a research report?
Dr. Kyung-Hee Bae, from the Center for Written, Oral, and Visual Communication will conclude her presentation to the students.
July 19th, What have I learned from the research experience at CTBP?
The students share their experience with CTBP mentors and complete an anonymous survey for Dr. Cheung.
July 29th (Monday) is the CTBP undergraduate research day. All students present posters.
